Sanding

Sanding treatments on metals, carried out on structures and components of any type, are preliminary operations to painting and laying anti corrosion substances.

Said treatments are required for a deep cleaning of the surfaces intended for removing all those residual substances such as oxides, salts, rust and scale which may prevent an optimal grip of the subsequently applied coatings.
The sanding treatment is performed using manual or automatic systems which shoot at high speed a metal abrasive agent consisting of steel or other material granules having different dimensions.
R.P. Rivestimenti plastici performs sanding treatments also on behalf of third parties.

R.P. RIVESTIMENTI PLASTICI S.R.L. has four different types of sander for covering the whole product range at best:

Conveyor Sander

Suitable for the mass treatment of metal small parts, small items

Hook a sander

In this case the pieces are hung on the specific hook (alone or clustered) which shifts and rotates within the machine exposing the whole surface of the hooked pieces to the flow of abrasive agent coming from the turbines arranged on the side of the chamber.
This machine is widely used in several sectors ranging from metal containers, naval piping, and fencing.

Manual sanding

Inner dimensions of the chamber 6.5 m x 3 m x 2.8 m h.
Required for sanding large items, but also for the treatment of delicate pieces because the operator adjusts the operating pressure as needed.
It is employed in the nautical sector for overhauling the piping of hydraulic systems of ships and the like.

Shot blasting

Roughness surveys follow standards ISO 8503 and surveys of the degree of cleanliness follow standards 8501/1.

Maximum Rmax roughness ranges from about 75 μ to about 95 μ.
Rz roughness ranges from about 60 µ to about 85 µ.
Ra roughness ranges from about 11 to about 14 µ.

The operating mixture is perfectly homogeneous with a complete absence of dust. The profile obtained is perfect as well as the roughness values found. The degree of cleanliness is equal to SA3.

The shot blasting operation has the following objectives:

    • Cleaning and elimination of contaminants from the surface under examination (oxidation, scale, welding residues, coating residues, etc.).
      Cleaning is defined by the initial conditions of the surface and the degree of residual contamination after treatment: the national reference in this regard is standard ISO 8501-1.

    • Roughness: the shape of the surface profile (peaks and depressions), deeply influences coating adhesion on the support and must be homogeneous and adequate to the applied coating.

Therefore, defining the shot blasting parameters to achieve the required roughness values and choosing the optimal combination of grain size and hardness that minimises coating consumption without compromising coverage and adhesion are fundamental operations.
